Allen Edward Marfell, 82, of Hillsboro, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at 5:55 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Event Center in Hillsboro. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3 p.m. at the Event Center with Pastor Mike Lawton of the United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be accorded. Cremation rites were accorded. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marfell was born July 20, 1937, in Witt, to Edward and Retta (Sawyer) Marfell. He married Barbara Holmes on Sept. 15, 1958, in Witt, and she survives in Hillsboro.

A 1955 graduate of Hillsboro High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, then the Air National Guard of Illinois, as well as the 183 Fighter Squad in Springfield, where he retired after 31 years.

During his lifetime, he lived in Witt, Godfrey, Daphney, AL, and Hillsboro. He was an executive regional supervisor for Miller Mutual Insurance.

A member of the Hillsboro Country Club, he loved golf. He served on the Witt Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Julie Marfell (husband Steve)Knopka of Lexington, KY, Bob (wife Jeannie) Marfell of Springfield, Suzie Marfell (husband Craig) Myers of Beardstown and Michael (wife Kara) Marfell of St. Louis, MO; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Jo Tobias.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
