Alvin Frank Whitsell, 79, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at 9:10 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with family friend, the Rev. Mark Harriss, officiating. Following the services, cremation rites will be accorded and a luncheon will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, 1301 North State Street.

Mr. Whitsell was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Dixon, to Frank and Nellie (Hays) Whitsell. He married Vera Klekamp on June 5, 1993, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, and she survives.

He graduated from Gillespie High School and worked for the railroad dispatch with Chicago Northwestern, which later became Union Pacific, for 39 and a half years. He loved the railroad and trains.

Mr. Whitsell enjoyed history and was a big trivia buff in that area. He was a world traveler as he enjoyed taking cruises with family and friends. He loved nature and animals, especially birds, cats and dogs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son,  Tom (Kai) Whitsell of Battlefield, MO; daughter, Karen (Pete) Collins of Springfield, MO; brother, Roger (Cathy) Whitsell of Rochester; stepson, Delbert Osborn; stepdaughter, Sheila Shields; and six grandchildren, Keaton and Marissa Jo Collins, Justin, Marissa and Alexis Shields and Toni Osborn.

Mr. Whitsell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Baugh; brother-in-law, Larry Baugh; and nephew, Randy Baugh.
