Another COVID Death Amid Low Positivity Rate


Although the number of new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County appears to have plateaued this spring, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced another local death on Wednesday, May 12.

The fatality, a male in his 80s, is the 74th in Montgomery County over the course of the pandemic, and the first in nearly a month.  The county’s last coronavirus death was announced on April 15.

In the first 11 days of this month, the Montgomery County Health Department has announced 31 new cases for a positivity rate of 0.9 percent from May 1-11.  According to IDPH, the statewide positivity for May 5-11 is 2.7 percent.

The local health department continues to host vaccination clinics, and according to IDPH, 27.95 percent of Montgomery County residents are fully vaccinated as of Wednesday, May 12.
