Arthur “Arkell” Harnetiaux, 94, of Vandalia, died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church in Vandalia. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia with military rites conducted. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia is assisting the family.

Mr. Harnetiaux was born on March 2, 1926, in Wisetown, to Willis and Nellie (Lowe) Harnetiaux. He married Betty Mae Minor on April 15, 1950, in Greenville, and she preceded him in death on June 1, 1988.

He served in the U.S. Army, from 1944 to 1946. During his career, he was a laborer at Crane Packing in Vandalia until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Harnetiaux was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Vandalia. He enjoyed carpentry work, bowling, golfing, camping, boating, fishing, traveling, and playing the organ and singing in the choir at church.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law, Robert Minor of Jacksonville; and sister-in-law, Jane (Minor) Eyman of Greenville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Harnetiaux was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane Harnetiaux; and two sisters, Vinita (Harnetiaux) Baker and one in infancy.

Memorials may be directed to Unity Baptist Church in Vandalia.
