Glenda Ann Slightom, 91, of Atwater, died Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Pleasant Dale Place in rural Girard.

There will be no public visitation due to the COVID-19 virus. Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, June 6, in Bethel Ridge Cemetery in Carlinville. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville is assisting the family.

Mrs. Slightom was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Atwater, a daughter of Glen A. and Sophronia (Boston) Klaus. She married Eugene J. “Gene” Slightom on Nov. 28, 1946, at the Carlinville United Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death in February 2018.

She attended the Waggoner schools in her youth. She was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church, and had recently been attending Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in rural Girard.

A true farm wife, she worked in the fields, took care of livestock, ran a grain truck and still had supper on the table when everyone came in. She and her husband loved to square dance and made many friends during their several years of dancing.

Even though sports weren’t her thing, she spent many evenings watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play all kinds of ball.

She is survived by her sons, Carl (Sheryl) Slightom of Atwater and Roger Slightom of Waggoner; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Kumpf of St. Louis, MO, Mary Herschelman of Raymond and Jean Germann of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Beverly VanDyke.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Ridge Cemetery or Girard Methodist Women.
