Barbara Anne Hazelwood, 74, of Staunton, died on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at her home.
No public services are planned. Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie is assisting the family.
Ms. Hazelwood was born June 27, 1946, in Granite City, to Lloyd C. and Nadine (Ulgar) Hazelwood.
She graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School with the class of 1964, and earned her teaching degree from SIUE in 1968.
Ms. Hazelwood taught first grade for 33 years at Staunton Elementary School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Historical Society and Bremer Sanctuary in Hillsboro. She also volunteered at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site.
She loved reading; traveling to Switzerland, Australia, the Pacific coast and many times to Arizona; and all animals, especially her Siamese cats.
Ms. Hazelwood is survived by her sisters, Roberta Gill (Jim) Wolff and Lois (Charles) Wiles, both of Freeburg; brother, Greg (Judy) Hazelwood of Millstadt; nieces, Tiffany (Matt) Burke of Swansea, Amy K. (Dan Wise) Hazelwood of Nederland, CO, and Kelsey (Tim) Corcoran of Chicago; nephews, Patrick (Tori) Gill of Dumont, CO, Cody Gill of Belleville, Ryan (Timothy Burgess) Hazelwood of Wildwood, MO, and Kevin Wiles of Freeburg; two great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; baby brother, Gary; brother-in-law, Robert Gill; and dear friend, Rosalie Battuello.
