Barbara Marilyn “Babs” (Friesland) Johnson, 88, of Nokomis, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at 9:05 a.m. at Pana Community Hospital.

A private family funeral will be conducted with burial at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Nokomis. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 19, 1933, in Nokomis, to Cecil and Alice (Baxter) Friesland. She married Ray E. Johnson on Aug. 10, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2009.

She was a farmwife and also served as a telephone operator.

A Lutheran, Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid and charter member of the Bell Choir.

She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Steve) Lee, Lisa (Scott) Henrichsmeyer, both of Coalton, and Joan (Dave) Wall of Moro; grandchildren, Darci Harrison, Trisha Taylor, Tara Hampton, Corey (Emily) Lee, Abbey (Josh) Spencer, Heather (Brian) Thompson, Heath (Candi) Estes, Amanda (Josiah) Kirk, David Wall and Jeffrey (Heather) Wall; and 13 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; son, Neil Johnson in 2006; and brother, Charles Friesland.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Nokomis, and the Montgomery County Cancer Association.
