Barrett Bryor Lee Koches, 7, of Sprinfield, died Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 23, at 12 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time, with Pastor Jeremy Morton of Truth and Grace Fellowship in Mattoon officiating. Burial will be in Irving Cemetery in Irving, Illinois.
Barrett was born on Nov. 3, 2016, in Springfield, to Jamie Hartman and Jeff Koches. He was in the first grade class of Mrs. Mathon at Chester-East Lincoln School where he was a devoted friend and protector of his classmates. Barrett was not just sweet and smart; he was strong. He was a member of the Lincoln Youth Wrestling club and attended several meets where he was awarded several medals.
Barrett loved the outdoors, including fishing and dirt bike riding, and also sports such as football and baseball, and his favorite character was Sonic the Hedgehog. He was a beautiful, bright, loving and beloved son and devoted brother and friend, a natural caregiver to all.
Barrett is survived by his parents; siblings Ryder Koches, Kolton (Mckea) Koches, Nash Koches, Alec (Victoria) Koches, and Levi (Devin) Koches; grandmother Tammy (Tommy) Hartman of Ramsey; several aunts and uncles and cousins, including Gina (Jake) Hartman and special cousin Kale; close friends Kevin and Tina Lynn; and special friend Tobias.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James A. Hartman of Irving; grandmother Joann Koches of Witt; grandfather Billy Koches; great-grandmother Darlene Durbin of Taylorville and great-grandfather Jim Hefley of Hillsboro.
