Beatrice Margaret Powers, 94, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, at 2:45 p.m. at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville, with Father Martin Smith officiating. Crawford Funeral Homes in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Powers was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Jerseyville, to Peter J. and Magdalena (Abeln) Powers.
One of five children, she was a lifelong Jerseyville resident. She graduated from Jersey Township High School in Jerseyville in 1944. She began working at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville until accepting a position with the State Bank of Jerseyville. She became a fixture at the bank, serving as a bookkeeper for nearly 40 years prior to her retirement.
A woman of deep faith, she was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, where she was active in the Altar Society. She had a gentle smile, and a warm heart. She loved to travel extensively with her sisters throughout the United States and enjoyed every minute of it.
She is survived by her brother, James Powers of Jerseyville; two nieces, Mary Ann Bott of Jerseyville and Karen Arkebauer of Bokeelia, FL; great-nephews and great-nieces, Devon Bott and his daughter, Violet, of Wood River, Dennis Dawson of Litchfield, Kate Dawson of Jerseyville, and Shawn Arkebauer and his daughter, Eloise, of Decatur.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Powers, Irene Powers and Kathryn Powers; and a sister-in-law, Donna Powers.
