Bell Ringing Campaign Kicks Off

The Greater Hillsboro Ministerial Fellowship of Hillsboro kicked off this year’s bell ringing campaign for the Salvation Army.

“Throughout the year, people are in need. Needs range from struggling with addiction to leaky roofs,” said Pastor Stefan Munker. “Usually, local churches are asked to help financially with food, clothing, medication, transport or lodging, that someone cannot afford because of lack of income or other expenses.”

Money raised through the Salvation Army bell ringing provides funds for emergency assistance provided through the store or local clergy. Due to the pandemic it was not possible to ring bells last year, but they were able to raise enough thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses.

“If you have been blessed this year, please give change at one of the participating businesses or organizations,” said Pastor Stefan Munker. “Your small or big donation will share the Christmas spirit of charity all year long.”

Volunteer bell ringers will be at Capri IGA in Hillsboro starting this Saturday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will continue to ring the bells during that time every Saturday in December.

Monetary donations may also be mailed to The Salvation Army Family Store, 237 S. Main Street, Hillsboro, IL 62049. Donors should put “Bell Campaign” in the memo line.

Anyone interested in helping to ring the bell this year or help with a new committee for next year’s campaign, contact Deborah Hudelson at the Salvation Army Store in downtown Hillsboro at 217-532-5059.
