Betty Hobbie, 91

Betty Ann Hobbie, 91, of Hillsboro, died at noon on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.

A family memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at St. Paul's Cemetery in Nokomis, with Rev. Chris Prumm of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Nokomis officiating. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home of Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Hobbie was born on April 16, 1928, to the late Herman and Anna (Renken) Hobbie.  She was a graduate of Witt High School, and after high school Ms. Hobbie went on to work for two years at Macon County Hospital in Decatur as their first surgical stenographer and then continued in the medical field for 40 years in Los Angeles, CA, before retiring in Witt and Hillsboro.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis. While in Los Angeles, CA, she taught Sunday school for ten years and played the piano for her weekly Sunday school classes. Her vacation time included traveling around the world and visiting 35 countries. Ms. Hobbie loved to attend all of the Cubs versus Dodgers games, while her brother Glen was a pitcher for the Cubs.

Ms. Hobbie is survived by three brothers, Roy Hobbie of Ada, MN, Kenneth (Delores) Hobbie of Mt. Zion and David (Carol) Hobbie of Hillsboro; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Earl, Calvin, Raymond and Glen; and sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy.
