Betty J. Langel, 92, of Greenville, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 4, in Brown Cemetery with the Rev. Ward Sussenbach officiating. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Langel was born Sept. 24, 1928, south of Sorento in Shoal Creek Township, to Wiliam Louis and Rosa Irene (McKean) Dove. She married Floyd Carl Langel on July 30, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2015.

She attended Woodland School and Sorento High School for three years, and graduated from Greenville High School with the class of 1946. She raised her family on the farm and was a devoted farmwife. She loved quilting.

For many years, she and her husband attended the First Christian Church in Greenville. She taught Sunday school for 30 years and helped with funeral dinners for many years. A member of the Old Ripley Home Bureau, she was a charter member of the Sorento American Legion Auxiliary. She attended the Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Greenville. 

She is survived by her three children, Sam Langel, Thomas (wife Cookie) Langel and Susan (husband Roger) Smith, all of Greenville; three grandchildren, Rachel, Holly and Nic; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Billy Dove of Florida.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 66 years, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Fern Foiles, Thomas Dove, Reba Wall and Wilma File; and a great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to Brown Cemetery or Mt. Gilead Church.
