Betty J. Morgan, 81, of Greenville, died Monday, July 29, 2019, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Greenville Free Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Deb Somerville officiating. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Morgan was born May 29, 1938, in Pontiac, MI, to Clarence C. and Agnes A. (Haight) Delamarter. She married Thomas D. Morgan on Aug. 28, 1960, at the Free Methodist Church in Spring Arbor, MI, with the Rev. David McKenna and the Rev. Verdon Dunkel co-officiating.

The seventh of eight children, she was a graduate of Spring Arbor Junior College, Greenville College, and she received her Master's and Specialist degrees in reading from Southern Illinois University.

She taught school in various roles, from music in the classroom, until her retirement in 1994. She  taught at Coffeen, Donnellson and Beckemeyer Elementary School  in Hillsboro.

After retirement, she supervised student teachers from Greenville College and served her local Free Methodist Church as director of children's ministry.

She loved to read, write poetry, make cards, travel and correspond with friends and family. As a novice gardener, the yard was her art pallet.

One of her skills was the ability to organize. She was able to use this for "Eden's Glory," her church, her profession and her home. She loved to be with people and exercised her gift of hospitality by opening both her home and her life with the unique ability to make everyone feel loved, valued and accepted.

Most importantly was her identity in Christ. She daily lived out her calling to seek God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love her neighbor as herself. She longed to see God at work in and through her, and her legacy of embodying the love of Jesus will live on in many generations.

In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by four children, Richard Henry (Lisa) Morgan and Vickie Sue (Mark) McFerran, both of Spring Arbor, MI, Valarie Lynne (James) Scott of Anderson, IN, and Douglas Clarence (Deann) Morgan of Greenville; ten grandchildren, Danae Morgan (Eric) Cappa, Brooklyn Morgan, Lacey Morgan (Greg) Hamilton, Morgan McFerran (Trevor) Litwiller, Michael (Brie) McFerran, Mason McFerran, Taylor (Amanda) Scott, Zachary (Peyton) Scott, Kristin Morgan (Scott) Voyles and Joshua Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Giovanni Cappa and Kensington Voyles; and brother, Robert Earl (Barbara) Delamarter of Spring Arbor, MI.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph, Walter, Clara, Lillian, Elaine and Carole.

Memorials may be made to Eden's Glory or the building fund at the Greenville Methodist Church.
