Betty J. Ward, 85, of Hillsboro, died on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at 3:40 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

Cremation rites were accorded and no public services will be held. Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Sorento is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ward was born May 17, 1935, in St. Louis, MO, to Henry and Pearl (Bearden) Haggard. She married Dwayne Wilder, and he preceded her in death.

She was commonly called, “Black Betty” by all who knew and loved her. She loved bartending, laying out in the sun, playing with her cats and spending as much time as possible with her family.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her daughter, Vicky (husband Gary) Alexander of Greenville; sons, Larry (wife Vicki) Ward of Florida, Bobby Ward of Staunton, Stevie Ward and Jerry Ward, both of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Vicki Harper of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lora Kirk; brother, George Haggard; sister, Lillian Ledbetter, twin Bonnie Parker, Goldie Rice, Mary Stewart and Ruth Gross.
