Beverly Marie (Sellers) Ernst, 92, of Hillsboro, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 25, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in St. John’s Cemetery in Coffeen.

Mrs. Ernst was born on June 21, 1934, in Springfield, to parents Clytheria Sellers and Lyman Sellers and lived in Hillsboro her entire life.

She married Henry August Ernst on Sept. 26, 1953. The couple were married for 66 years and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2020.

Mrs. Ernst was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she attended most of her life, since 1944. She served the church as a Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher. In her later years, she taught the senior women’s class “temporarily” for 20 years. She was very involved in her church, also singing in the choir.

She loved being around people, playing cards, camping and spending time with her family and friends. She loved her town, enjoyed reading and writing poetry and engaged in historical work on her family lineage through genealogy.

Mrs. Ernst is survived by her children, David Henry (Belinda) Ernst of Harvel, Stephen Alan (Ruth) Ernst, Judy Sue (Gregg) Shannon and Phillip Lee (Lora) Ernst, all of Hillsboro and Dan Wayne (Lori) Ernst of Rochester; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Moody; sisters-in-law, Bea Sellers and Barbara Ernst; brother-in-law, Bud Terneus; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; mother, Clytheria; father and stepmother, Lyman and Helen Marie Sellers; grandson, Joshua Ernst; great-grandson, Christian Snow; brother, Tom Sellers; sister and brother-in-law, Lila and Robert Criswell; brother-in-law, Frank Moody; and Ernst in-laws, Lester Ernst, John and Sarah Ernst, Marie Terneus and Fran and Roy Weitekamp.

Memorials may be donated to Calvary Baptist Church, or to a recipient of the donor’s choice.
