Litchfield senior Carly Boden poured in a career-best 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers to a 53-18 win over Lincolnwood Monday night, Jan. 6, at the Woodshed.
The Lancers did not have an answer to the 5'10" post player, who scored 13 of the Panthers' 21 first quarter points from the paint. Litchfield would outscore their hosts in every quarter as the young Lancers struggled to score and fell prey to turnovers.
Lincolnwood would control the opening tip only to have the ball stripped by Becky Painter, but a Lancer turnover, one of five in the period, resulted in a transitional layup from Emily Senjan. The next 13 points belonged to Boden as she scored repeatedly from her post position.
Trailing 15-0, Lincolnwood's Avery Pope broke the Lancer scoring drought with 1:33 left but there was still time for Painter and Carson Jackson to drop in three's and the quarter ended 21-2 in favor of the purple and white.
Lincolnwood would tally their highest point production in the second period with a three-point goal from Haelee Damm and two-pointers from Cassie Krager and Katelyn Payne. Damm would also convert two free throws as the Lancers tacked on nine points in the frame.
But the wheels on the Panther bus just kept rolling with two three-point baskets apiece from Emily Senjan and Becky Painter. Junior Kate Komor came off the bench to add four points to the Panther cause and the half ended with the Lancers facing an uphill battle in the final 16 minutes of play.
Boden scored six of Litchfield's 10 third quarter points to extend the lead to 31 at the end of the third quarter and force the continuous clock in the fourth.
Cara Pence and Laura Boston accounted for Litchfield's other four points in the third, while Cassie Krager and Katelyn Payne scored baskets for the Lancers and Avery Pope converted 1-of-2 charity tosses.
Katelyn Payne was the sole contributor to the Lancer offense as she grabbed a rebound and scored on a put back late in the fourth. Senjan, Pence and Boden each added a deuce for the Panthers, who finished the game hitting 22-of-51 from the floor.
Emily Senjan scored 10 points and was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. The 5'8" senior also grabbed five rebounds, had two steals and two assists. Junior Becky Painter had nine points, two rebounds, nine steals, an assist and a block. Junior Cara Pence had four points, three rebounds, five steals, eight assists and two blocks, while Carson Jackson scored three points and six steals.
The Panthers are at Hillsboro this evening, Jan. 9, and will travel to Greenville for an afternoon game on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Lancers host Pawnee on Thursday and East Alton-Wood River on Saturday.
