During their home match on Monday, Sept. 16, the Hillsboro boys golf team finished first... and second.
The varsity Toppers would shoot a 152 on their home course at the Hillsboro Country Club, while the JV Toppers shot a 182, a score that would have been good enough to beat both Roxana (211) and Pana (216) had the second string been eligible for the win.
Alex Eickhoff was spot on Monday, shooting a 2-under-par 34 to take medalist honors for the match. Dane Huber and Alex White would back Eickhoff with a 38 and a 39, while Owen Malloy and Wilson Hamby tied for the final scoring spot with a 41. Gunnar Micnheimer rounded out the scoring with a 43 for HHS.
Tad Daniels would lead the JV Toppers with a 39, giving Hillsboro four players in the 30s for the match. Dominic Haggard added in a 45, while Drake Vogel finished with a 47. Dillon Smail had the JV's fourth scoring round with a 51.
Also playing from Hillsboro were Nate Reeves, Hayden Fuller and Preston Lyerla, who shot 53, 54 and 55 respectively.
All told, Hillsboro players would have the top nine individual scores and 13 of the 17 best scores on the day.
Hillsboro will be at Oak Hills Country Club on Friday, Sept. 20, as they take on Lincolnwood, Auburn and North Mac.

The Litchfield boys golf team got familiar with several of their South Central Conference competitors to start the week as they played in matches at the Carlinville Country Club and at Staunton's Timber Lakes Golf Course on Sept. 16 and 17.
The Panthers would pick up a pair of wins on Monday in Carlinville as they shot a 184 to beat the host Cavies by six strokes. Southwestern would be third with 233.
Anthony Boston would be co-medalist for the match, tying Carlinville's Ethan Siglock for medalist honors with a 5-over-par 41. Keagan Marten would be just a stroke behind the top two with a 42, while Blake Rentz shot a 50 for the third scoring round.
Allen Schneider and Kelvin Dooley would both shoot 51s for the other LHS score, while Zach Boston was close behind with a 52.
On Tuesday, Litchfield would finish second in a quad meet by just two strokes as the Panthers were beaten out by Greenville, 177 to 179. Gillespie would place third with a 206, while Staunton was fourth with a 210.
Anthony Boston and Keagan Marten would again lead Litchfield, with both players shooting 42 on the day. Their rounds were just a stroke behind Austin Shearlock of Staunton for medalist honors for the match.
Litchfield's other four players would be tightly grouped, with Allen Schneider shooting a 47, Zach Boston shooting a 48, Kelvin Dooley shooting a 49 and Blake Rentz shooting a 51.
The two wins in each match bumped the Panthers' record to 13-9 on the season. They are scheduled to play next at Fox Prairie Golf Course, the site of the Windsor Invite on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Two matches, two medalists and four more wins came Lincolnwood's way to start the week as the Lancer golfers played at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Raymond and Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16 and 17.
On Monday, the Lancers were on their home turf and beat Auburn 166 to 171 at Shoal Creek.
Sam Herman would shoot a 3-over-par 39 on the day to take the top individual spot, edging teammate Braxton Schmedeke by one stroke. Devin Brown would be just two strokes behind his teammate with a 41, while Michael Jones and Nate Brockmeyer both shot 46s to tie for the fourth scoring spot. Will Jenkins also played for the Lancers, shooting a 47 on the day.
The Lincolnwood JV team also played at Shoal Creek on Monday, shooting a 204 to beat their Auburn contemporaries by 13 strokes.
Michael Graham led the way with a 45, while Drake Germann added a 48. Jacob Mizera turned in a 53, with Colton Tischkau adding a 58. George Schoenherr also hit the links, shooting a 64.
A day later, the Lancers were at it again with a win over South County, Mt. Olive and Ramsey. Lincolnwood would shoot a 172 to beat South County by 16 strokes. Mt. Olive and Ramsey would be third and fourth with scores of 218 and 242.
Freshman Nate Brockmeyer earned co-medalist honors for the match, shooting a 5-over-par 41 at Timber Lakes to tie South County's Dane Richie.
The Lancers would be tightly grouped together, with just four strokes separating the four scoring rounds. Devin Brown would earn a 42, while Michael Jones and Sam Herman shot 44 and 45 respectively.
Ramsey, who co-ops with Nokomis for golf, was led by Marc Grigoroff with a 58 and Wyatt Marley with a 59. Dallas Sneddon would add a 60, while Matt Lay chipped in the fourth scoring round with a 65. Lane Austin (68) and Aiden Knodle (69) also played for the Rams.
Lincolnwood's JV team also made the trip to Staunton, shooting a 224 on the day to beat South County's JV by 34 strokes. Colton Tischkau led the way with a 48, while Michael Graham finished with a 53. Drake German (59), Jacob Mizera (64) and George Schoenherr (65) also played for the JV Lancers.
The varsity will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 20, as they play Auburn, Hillsboro and North Mac at Oak Hills Country Club in Girard.
