C. Patrick Gaffney, 90, of Loami, died on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at 3:29 a.m. at his residence.

Private family funeral services will be held. Family and friends may view the ceremony after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at www.client.tribucast.com/tcid/73384157. Cremation rites will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center in Springfield.

Mr. Gaffney was born June 13, 1930, in Springfield, to Charles Bartlett and Elizabeth M. (Murphy) Gaffney. He married Theresa M. Long on April 30, 1960, in Illiopolis, and she survives.

He graduated from Cathedral Boys High School with the class of 1948, and went on to attend Springfield Junior College. 

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Gaffney served as a staff sergeant from 1951 to 1953. He was employed with Pillsbury for 15 years, then farmed and raised livestock in the Nokomis and Ramsey areas.

He enjoyed rooting for the Chicago Cubs and following SHG sports.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gaffney is survived by his sons, Patrick (wife Kathryn) Gaffney of Nokomis and Michael J. (wife Joanie) Gaffney of Springfield; two siblings, Louis (wife Katherine) Gaffney of Crystal Lake and Lawrence “Larry” (wife Janet) Gaffney of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian T. Gaffney; and two brothers, John R. and Joseph B. Gaffney.
