Camilla Irene Reimer, 96, formerly of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at Memorial Hospice in Springfield.
The family will host a memorial gathering on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West, located at 2931 Koke Mill Road. A private burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Reimer was born Feb. 27, 1928, on the family farm southwest of Hillsboro to parents Sharon Green and Katrina Newport Green. She was a descendant of pioneers in that community. She attended rural schools and graduated from Hillsboro High School. Her yearbook noted that “Camilla is very wise and prudent and a good commercial student.”
She married Charles Reimer of Springfield on September 16, 1950, at First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Mrs. Reimer had previously worked as a dental assistant and as a secretary in the State Capitol Building. She was on the temporary founding support staff at the Illinois Revenue Department and later on the founding staff of Sangamon State University (now UIS). Mrs. Reimer retired after eighteen years of service and on her retirement day was named the university’s employee of the month.
Mrs. Reimer was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reimer; infant son, David in 1955 and daughter, Sally Davis in 2000; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and “Bob” Robbins, Betty and Gail Milliken and JoAnn and Bernard Hopley.
Mrs. Reimer is survived by her sister, Sharon Green of Naples, FL; brother, Harold Green of Hillsboro; son, Charles Reimer II; daughters, Elizabeth Reimer of Dallas, TX and Susan Smith (“Rick”) of Chatham; granddaughter, Shannon (Dr. Jackson Graves); and great-grandson, Sullivan Graves of Peoria.
