After a three-set loss to Pana in their opening game, the Hillsboro volleyball team was hoping to get back on track on Tuesday, Sept. 3, in Carlyle. Unfortunately, the Indians had other ideas and handed the Lady Hiltoppers an excruciatingly close 25-23, 25-23 loss.
The attack would be a battle between two senior hitters, Hillsboro's Kayli Ward and Carlyle's Molly Diekemper. Ward would put down 12 kills for the Toppers, while Diekemper had 11 kills in Carlyle's winning effort.
Kaci Papin also had four kills for Hillsboro, while Haley Major added one. Reagan DeVashier led the team in assists, with nine, while Jordan Jacobs added four.
Defensively, Ally Devore led the way with five digs, while Maria Hernandez had two digs. Both Ward and Papin had a block apiece for Hillsboro as well.
On the service line, Chloe Beck finished with six points, followed by Major with five and Ward and Devore, who had two each.
Hillsboro will look to rebound on Thursday, Sept. 5, when they travel to Litchfield to take on the Purple Panthers.
