Carolyn Jean (Bertetto) Philippe, 79, of Livingston, died peacefully with her family on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at 4:30 a.m.

According to her wishes, she was cremated and there will be no services. Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Philippe was born June 14, 1940, in Wilsonville, to Bert and Wanda (Cleeton) Bertetto. She married Richard L. Philippe in 1961, in Wilsonville, and he survives.

She graduated from Gillespie High School with the class of 1958, and graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield in 1961 as a registered nurse.

During her career, Mrs. Philippe worked as a registered nurse at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend who was well-liked by everyone. She volunteered at the Livingston Grade School PTA and was the scorekeeper for the Livingston Golddiggers girls softball team for many years. 

Mrs. Philippe was an excellent seamstress and cook and was an avid reader. She also loved to go shopping and eating out, spending time with her family, traveling to Florida beaches and bird watching out her back window. She also enjoyed listening and dancing to the Bill Berutti Combo, where both her husband and son played drums.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Rick L. Philippe of rural Livingston, Lynette Philippe (Kenny) Zirges of Staunton and Denise Philippe (Dan) Mateyka of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Tyler (Christine) Zirges of Jackson, MO, Marissa Zirges of Clute, TX,  and Taylor Mateyka, who is a current student at University of Wisconsin-Madison from Edwardsville; brother, Larry Bertetto of Florida; and beloved chihuahua dogs, Chita and Chico.

Mrs. Philippe was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Frank Bertetto and Don Bertetto.
