Carolyn Jean Whitler, 90, of Girard, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at HSHS St. john’s Hospital in Springfield.
No services are planned at this time. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard is assisting the family.
Mrs. Whitler was born Feb. 20, 1930, at home in Viden. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Fannie and Stephen Brenneman. She married Hal Whitler on Dec. 29, 1951, in Carlinville, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2001.
A 1948 graduate of Girard High School, she was a homemaker who raised five children. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard. She enjoyed bowling and was a PTA member. She loved her time at Deck’s Drugstore and later Doc’s Fountain with granddaughter, Stephanie and visiting all of her friends. She co-owned the Near New Shop in Girard with her cousin, Gwen Tucker for many years.
She is survived by her three daughters, Becky (Phil) Williams of Carlinville, Gail (Stu) Hunt and Cheryl Turley, all of Girard; two sons, Phil (Mary Jane) Whitler of Litchfield and Marty Whitler of Girard; grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Sonya, Stephanie, Kristopher and Dane; eight great-grandchildren; and cousin, Gwen Tucker of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
