Cesaretti's Homer Highlights Nokomis Victory

The Nokomis Lady Redskins started their week of play off with a win against the Lady Panthers of North Mac on Monday, April 1.

The Skins came out swinging, gaining a 7-0 lead in the first inning.  After  three quick defensive outs in the bottom of the first, the Lady Redskins were ready to bat again. The hits slowed for the Lady Redskins in the next few innings, but they kept steady, scoring a couple each time at-bat.

The Lady Panthers kept returning those hits and inching closer to the Lady Redskins' lead, but they could not get the job done as the Lady Redskins took the win, 18-13.

Delaney Keiser led the Lady Redskins in stolen bases with four. Emma Blaum, Maddie Sowarsh, Karlie Wanger, Alexa Cassidy, Emma Hill, and Sophia Keller all added hits along with Emily Cesaretti, who had her first over the fence home run. Maddie Sowarsh took the win on the rubber for Nokomis.

Play continued for the week on Tuesday as the Lady Skins faced off in their first conference match against East Alton-Wood River.

With the momentum from the win of the night prior, the Lady Redskins kept their bats hot and took the lead right away. The Lady Oilers came back and answered by gaining the lead away from the Lady Skins and held it until the fifth inning when a double from Delaney Keiser tied it up.

The tie would last until the bottom of the seventh when the Lady Oilers had a hit  in the infield that would score the winning run. The Lady Redskins lost 6-7.

The Lady Redskins had multiple players that contributed to the hits during the game including Emily Cesaretti, Delaney Keiser, Emma Blaum and Maddie Sowarsh with an inside-the-park home run. Sowarsh took the loss on the mound while having nine strikeouts.

The Lady Redskins have a busy end to the week.  They will continue play on Thursday with a home game against Auburn, a Friday night conference match against Metro-East Lutheran and  the UIS Varsity Softball Slam at the UIS softball complex in Springfield on Saturday. In the Slam, they will play three games. One at 9 a.m. against Petersburg PORTA/AC, one at 12 p.m. against West Central and one at 1:30 p.m. against Quincy Notre Dame.
