After 31 years of service, change is coming to the Countryside Veterinary Clinic on Route 127 south of Hillsboro. Dr. Ben Brohammer and his wife, Karen, are in the process of selling their business to Dr. Stacey Funderburk and Dr. Chad O'Connor, who currently own and operate Countryside Veterinary Services in Taylorville and Nokomis Veterinary Services.
In the future, the clinic will be known as Hillsboro Advanced Veterinary Care. While the name and the personnel are changing, customers will continue to receive quality service for their four-legged friends.
While he is selling the business, Brohammer plans to stay on for the next year or so to ensure a smooth transition of services for his patients.
Brohammer graduated from the University of Illinois in 1986, and following a brief stop in Nashville, IL, he and Karen started the business in Hillsboro in May 1988.
Early on, he provided veterinary services for farm animals as well as the walk-in business of smaller household pets. But as the years passed, he focused his attention on the latter as it was more manageable to deliver routine, scheduled services to his customers without interruption.
In the intervening years, Brohammer saw a lot of changes. Among the most significant improvements he has witnessed were the introduction of better, more effective medications, the microchipping process to help identify lost animals, and the use of laser surgery which is much more effective and less traumatic to the animals involved.
Brohammer and his wife, both graduates of HHS, have four children, one granddaughter, and a second grandchild is on the way. When they aren't working or spending time with the family, they have a place at Hilton Head where they plan to spend more time as retirement approaches.
"Karen and I are pleased and honored by the trust that our customers have shown us during the past 31 years, and we hope that their trust will continue during the upcoming transition period. Be assured that Dr. Stacey and Dr. Chad are wonderful, highly-skilled veterinarians who will continue to provide quality pet care for all customers in our area."
