Charlene Pryor, 76, of Vandalia, died at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Per Mrs. Pryor’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A private graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, in Litchfield with Pastor Zach Shaeffer officiating.

Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia is assisting the family.

Mrs. Pryor was born on March 14, 1947, to the late Charles W. and Virginia  L. (Brockmeir) McNeil Jr. in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Mrs. Pryor was formerly the head produce clerk at Vandalia Kroger for 14 years. She then began working for Illinois Department of Corrections as a correctional officer, and retired from Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.

Throughout the years, Charlene had several hobbies; she loved quilting, crafting, gardening and cooking. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She also had an avid love for travel and a passion in supporting Parkinson’s disease, including traveling all over with a quilt she helped design for the Parkinson’s organization. She was affiliated with the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Pryor is survived by her children, daughters Heidi (Sheldon) Schulte of Vandalia and Ginny Pryor (Danny Robinson) of Hillsboro, and son Matthew (Ashley) Pryor of Vandalia; brother Robert (Sharon) McNeil of Loveland, CO; grandchildren Haley (Jacob) Tompkins, Brendan (Anna Miller) Boley, Kaitlin and Trey Robinson and Ayden and Amelia Pryor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Kean Pryor.
