Charles "Charlie" E. Simonton, 81, of Taylor Springs, died on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Marion Sparks and Larry Pearse co-officiating.
Mr. Simonton was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Hillsboro, to William and Almeta Simonton. He married Laura Reed, and she survives.
During his career, he worked as a correctional officer at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro and was also the head of laundry.
Mr. Simonton served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Baptist faith. He was also a dedicated supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn Simonton of Nokomis; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Simonton was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Randy and John Simonton; and 12 siblings.
