Charles E. White, 89, of Decatur, formerly of Montgomery County, died on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 11:50 p.m. at Fair Haven Christian Village in Decatur.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. at Greenhill Cemetery in Van Burensburg with the Rev. Tim Logue, pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coffeen, officiating. Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen is assisting the family.

Mr. White was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Sikeston, MO, to Walter W. and Stella F. (Warren) White. He married Phyllis Bess on June 12, 1949, in Coffeen, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 2008.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School, and retired from Caterpillar in Decatur in 1988 as an inspector.

Mr. White lived in Montgomery County and Decatur during his lifetime. He was a member of the NRA, UAW Local #751 in Decatur and Sunnyside Church of Christ in Decatur.

He was a car enthusiast, especially Mercedes-Benz, and loved to buy, sell and trade them.

Mr. White is survived by three daughters, Linda (Philip) Russell, Susan (Russell) Anderson and Janet (Randy Costley) Cox, all of Decatur; grandchildren, Stacey and Larry Waddington, Kaylin and Renee Askew Wikoff, Erin and Gus Gomes, Megan Barnes, Evan and Ashley Claypool and Brett and Katy Claypool; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joann Saparito, Wilma (Bill) Paslay and Mary (Jeff) Kosiver.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Richard Cox; one great-grandchild; and three brothers, Evan, Robert and Jerry White.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coffeen.
