Charles Harvey Saul, 96, of Taylorville, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 19, at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville assisted the family.

Mr. Saul was born June 27, 1924, in Springfield, the son of George and Alice (Smith) Saul. He married Ruby Morris on Dec. 24, 1947, in Springfield, and she survives.

His career began as a paperboy and a grocery delivery boy in Springfield. He later began working at Allis Chalmers. For 50 years, he was engaged in farming, rounding out his life as the plant manager for Midstate Salvage Corp. for 21 years, retiring at the age of 81. He was often teased about having been preceded in death by one famous grandparent, King Saul of Israel.

In addition to his wife of 73 years, he is survived by his children, Carolyn (Neal) Lebeter of Taylorville and Sharon (Randy) Smith of Kingman, AZ; grandchildren, Randy C. Smith of Taylorville and Jennifer Lebeter of Morrisonville; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins, including his special cousin, Pat Sapp Sawyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Saul and Larry Saul; and sisters, Betty Hoggit and Alice Mae Tuebner.
