Charles James Kahl, 83, of Fort Collins, CO, died peacefully on Monday, March 15, 2021, at his home.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland, CO, is assisting the family.

Mr. Kahl was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Aruba, the younger of two brothers to Herbert and Lavonne Kahl.

After the start of WWII, the family moved to Litchfield, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1956. He went on to attend college at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, where he met and married the love of his life, Julianne Mathews, in 1960.

Mr. Kahl joined the Army in 1959, and after enlisting, he and his wife resided in Albuquerque, NM, where he excelled on the Army track team and competitive rifle team. While in the Army, he learned to fly and upon the completion of his service duty, he was hired by United Airlines in 1963.

He was stationed in Denver, CO, where he and his wife started a family comprised of three daughters. The family moved to Loveland, CO, in 1966, where they lived on the east side of Boyd Lake and enjoyed the bonds of a wonderful community, where lifelong friendships were made. He retired from United Airlines in 1998 as a captain on the Boeing 747.

Mr. Kahl was very giving with his time as he was an active member of Mountain View United Presbyterian Church and a volunteer of the Colorado Civil Air Patrol. He will be remembered as an avid sportsman, where his love of fishing, hunting and camping facilitate many fond memories.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Shelby Kahl, Charla (Ernie) Paoli and Bonnie (John) Kahl; grandchildren, Jacey Paoli, Rorke Lee and Statham Lee; and honorary son, Tim Cherry.

Mr. Kahl was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Herb Kahl.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dementia Together or the charity of choice c/o Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.
