Charles Robert Stokes, 80, of Witt, died Thursday, May 6, 2021, at his residence.
Public graveside services will be held Monday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Ramsey. CDC guidelines will be in place with the wearing of masks and social distancing. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home Nokomis is serving the family.
The son of Forrest and Lovie (Jackson) Stokes, he was born July 1, 1940, in Nokomis. He married Carolyn Brown, and they divorced. He later married Della Houchlei on Nov. 26, 1988, in the Waveland Church, and she survives.
Mr. Stokes was Pentecostal and a carpenter.
He is survived by his children, Charles Stokes, Jr. of Hillsboro, Kent (Cheri) Stokes of Springfield, Rebecca Stokes of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Tim (companion Angels) Stokes of Hillsboro, Jason (Amy) Wright of Manteca, CA, Richard (Jessica) Houchlei of Valparaiso, IN, and Brandon (Michelle) Houchlei of Farmington, MO; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Millie Noyes of Hillsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Mark, Lisa and Shelly Stokes; brothers, Paul, Oral, Tom, Bill and John Stokes; and sisters Rose Marie Caulk, Lula Mae Petra, Susie Griffin, Verna Davis and Mary Kamer.
