Charles Vincent Meisner, 90, of Jerseyville, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 3:20 a.m. at his residence.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 18, at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Burial was held in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Meisner was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Jersey County, the son of the late Henry and Ida Lena (Hoehn) Meisner. He married the former Helen Elaine Schaefer on Dec. 29, 1951, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2001.

In 1947, he graduated from Jersey Township High School, and he proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Meisner died on the farm he cherished, where he was born, worked and raised his family. He tirelessly worked the ground day and night in order to raise his family, and was able to ride his tractor for the last time right before his death.

Employed as a rural mail carrier for many years at the Jerseyville Post Office, it was a perfect fit for him because he knew no strangers and the route sometimes took a little longer than necessary with his gift of conversation.

He was very active in the Jersey County community and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #492, Jersey County Fair Board, Tri County Shorthorn Association, Rural Mail Carrier Association, Knights of Columbus, where he volunteered for many years for Sunday night Bingo, and was a former leader for the Jersey County 4-H.

He is survived by seven children, Carolyn Meisner of Jerseyville, Carl Meisner of Virginia, Theresa (Butch) McGowen and Marilyn (Dennis) Brunaugh, both of Jerseyville, John (Donna) Meisner and Joan (Marcus) Schaefer, both of Piasa, and Louis Meisner of Jerseyville; 16 grandchildren, Jacalyn Meisner of Farmer City, Garrett Meisner of Jerseyville, Greta Meisner of Oklahoma City, OK, Kari (Justin) Hart of St. Jacob, Nathan (Sarah) Brunaugh of Jerseyville, Justin Brunaugh of Brighton, Ryan (Lauren) Brunaugh and Ashley (James) Wadlow, both of Jerseyville, Jacob Meisner of Princeville, Kayla (Spencer) DeUel of Jerseyville, Rachel Meisner of Hillsboro, Tim Schaefer of Manhattan, NY, Brian (Ashley) Schaefer of Louisville, KY, Jennifer (Justin) Cottingham of Alton, and Chase Meisner and Logan Meisner, both of Jerseyville; and 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

In addition to his parents and wife of 49 years, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, and two sisters, Mildred Busker and Mary Corlas.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville, BJC Hospice or to Masses, in c/o Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052.
