Charles W. McIlvoy, 80, of Glen Carbon, died on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City, 2160 Delmar Avenue. Memorial services will follow, beginning at 3 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Jennifer Warren Hauser officiating. Private family interment will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville.

Mr. McIlvoy was born June 3, 1939, in Granite City, to Willis and Grace (Thomas) McIlvoy. He married Laura Lee McPhail on Sept. 21, 1963, in St. Louis, MO, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2019.

He retired as an industrial engineer after 38 years of dedicated service to Granite City Steel.

Mr. McIlvoy was a faithful member of First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City and the Rotary Club of Granite City.

A gifted singer, he enjoyed sharing his talents with the Ambassadors of Harmony in St. Charles, MO. He loved working with his hands, retoring antique cars and woodworking. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.

Mr. McIlvoy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ellen Mathews and Melissa (Bryan) Blackford; sisters, Sharon (Wally) Malles and Janet (Grant) Takmajian; grandchildren, Kimberlee Mathews and John Smallwood; beloved cat, Ellie; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to First United Presbyterian Church of Granite City. Donations will be accepted at the church.
