It’s been a tough year to make a start in the restaurant business, but chef Ryan Turner is determined to jump in head-first.
The Hillsboro native opened the restaurant at the Marina on Glenn Shoals Lake on Thursday, June 11, featuring quick and innovative fresh fare.
“I want to keep everything quick and easy,” Turner said, “but that doesn’t mean quick and easy can’t be delicious.”
Not only will the Marina feature it’s staple menu of a quarter-pound hamburger, a chicken sandwich, or a Caesar salad each weekend, but the chef will also rotate in fresh seasonal favorites. This weekend those will be a catfish po’ boy, root beer BBQ pulled pork, or strawberry spinach salad.
“I use as much local product as possible,” Turner said.
Hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but . . .
“I plan on being here until the sun goes down,” Turner said of later hours in the coming weeks. You might also find him there soon after the sun comes up. “We’re going to try breakfast on Sunday beginning at 6:30 a.m.”
The first few weekends, dining is either take-out or outdoors at the scenic floating restaurant. If the region moves to Phase 4 on June 26, indoor dining will be available.
A 2002 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Turner earned his culinary degree from L’Ecole Culinaire in Ladue, MO, in 2007. Since then, he has worked in kitchens from St. Louis to Colorado, locally at the Hillsboro Country Club and Red Rooster Inn, and the last three years as chef at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield.
In addition to Turner’s imaginative and fresh weekly menu, the Marina also sells gasoline, city lake permits, and package liquor. The telephone number is 627-7017.
