Chieko Stumbo, 93, of Sorento, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at her residence.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Sorento is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stumbo was born January 4, 1928 in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Kumao and Asaki Nogami. She married Phillip E. Shipp; he preceded her in death. She then married William A. Stumbo, who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stumbo graduated from high school in Japan and eventually retired from Western Electric as a machine operator after twenty years of service. She was known to be kind and always willing to help others, and especially loved volunteering and helping the elderly at several local nursing homes. She was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville, and was a member of The Hedge in Sorento.

Mrs. Stumbo is survived by her children, Thomas E. (wife Pamela) Shipp of Ohio, Mary Gausepohl of Sorento, Phillip Edward Shipp, Jr., of Florida, and Phillip Eugene Shipp of Montana; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Phillip E. Shipp and husband William A. Stumbo; son-in-law Michael Gausepohl; sister-in-law Barbara Shipp; two sisters, and one brother.
