Christmas Comes To Litchfield This Weekend


The theme of the 2018 Litchfield Chamber of Commerce Christmas event is Christmas Movies and the Litchfield Chamber has plenty of  holiday outings planned to ignite the community's Christmas spirit.

The event packed season will start with a chance for five people to win a $100 shopping spree at participating businesses. The promotion begins on Saturday, Nov. 17, and runs through Friday, Dec. 7. Litchfield shoppers may register for a chance to win one of five $100 shopping sprees at participating businesses. The five lucky winners will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Library Park following the Christmas Parade.

The first event on the Litchfield Chamber's list will be  Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24, giving shoppers a chance to get a head start on holiday gift purchases. Shoppers will find special sales, promotions and even refreshments at participating local businesses.

The Christmas Movies event is set to start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, with the Holiday Walk, where participating businesses will have sales, promotions and refreshments for walkers. The Litchfield Train Group will host a model railroad open house from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ameriprise Financial Building located at 510 North State Street.

The Lighted Christmas Parade is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. There is still time to register for the Christmas movie-themed parade and participants have the chance to win a prize. Float entries will be judged for first, second and third place cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50. Individual parade participants will be judged in the brackets of zero to two years old, three to five years old, six to eight years old, and nine to 12 years old. Each of the bracket winners will be awarded two Westside Cinema tickets and a book. The judging will take place during the parade lineup at 5 p.m. at the Holy Family Church parking lot. The winners will be announced at Library Park after the parade. The Litchfield Chamber asks that no Santas be present on any of the floats.

Following the Lighted Parade Walgreen's of Litchfield is sponsoring free pictures with Santa at the Moose Lodge. In addition to meeting Santa children will enjoy cookies provided by the Women of the Moose Lodge and hot chocolate provided by UJ's. Additionally, the  Litchfield Chamber will be passing out goodie bags to the children in attendance.

The town-wide Christmas celebrations will culminate on Sunday, Dec. 8, with the Jingle Bell Jog 5K. Everyone who registers for the 5K prior to Friday, Nov. 30, will receive a hooded sweatshirt. Registration for the Jingle Bell Jog 5K is set for 7:30 a.m. at the Moose Lodge. To top off the movie-themed event a free Christmas movie will be shown at noon on Sunday, Dec. 8, courtesy of the Westside Cinema in Litchfield.      

Litchfield businesses may be interested in sponsoring the community celebration. A Green Sponsorship is $75 and comes with the sponsoring business's name listed on social media sites and in all of the area newspaper and radio ads, inclusion as a sponsor of the shopping spree promotion with spree presents placed at the sponsoring business's location from Saturday, Nov. 17, until Saturday, Dec. 7, and the sponsoring business's name printed on the Litchfield Chamber bucks that will be given away as prizes at the event. A red sponsorship is $150 and includes everything in the green sponsorship with the addition of the sponsoring business's name or logo featured first, larger and bolder  on social media sites, and in all of the area newspaper and radio ads, and the  sponsoring business's name or logo displayed on the back of all of the Christmas event sweatshirts.
