Clinton Ray “Gus” McGlothlin, 66, of Springfield, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at his residence.
Funeral services for Mr. McGlothlin will be held Saturday, March 23, at noon at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The Rev. Jimmy Coyle, pastor of the Ashland Church of Christ, will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.
Mr. McGlothlin was born on Feb. 11, 1958. in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Keith Dwayne and Mary Alvora (Lynch) McGlothlin. He was a graduate of Litchfield Community High School with the class of 1976. He then studied architecture at the St. Louis Technical School and graduated from that program.
He married the former Lisa Marie Greenwalt on August 11, 1979 at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, and she survives.
Mr. McGlothlin was self-employed doing business as CMA Architects, specializing in school building design. Some of his projects include school buildings in Bunker Hill, Tinley Park, Collinsville, Robinson, and Newton. Prior to being self-employed, Mr. McGlothlin worked for Sarti-Huff Architects, Huff Architects and Trans-Continental Builders, all in Springfield.
Mr. McGlothlin was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He enjoyed putting together LEGO sets, playing rummy, shopping at Menard’s and tinkering in his garage. His real enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren and riding his RZR side-by-side.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McGlothlin is survived by his two sons, Brian (Megan) McGlothlin of Springfield and Michael (Missy) McGlothlin of Ashland and daughter, Sarah McGlothlin of Springfield; brother, Rodney “Louie” (Debi) McGlothlin of Bowling Green, KY, and sister, Karen Mathies of Kalamazoo, MI; six grandchildren, Ethan, Evan McGlothlin, Jaxon Pierce and Cale, Collin and Claire McGlothlin; nieces and nephews Heather and Chad (Jennie) McGlothlin, Lance (Suzanne) Greenwalt, Christy (Jody) Hillberry and Lyndsay (Adam) Gradyan.
Mr. McGlothlin is preceded in death by his parents.
