Coffeen Plans Annual Fall Fest This October


The city of Coffeen will host its annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Washington Park in Coffeen.

Beginning at 9 a.m., there will be a horseshoe tournament competition. There is a $5 entry fee to compete.

While there is no set end time to the tournament, spectators will want to get there early. Competitors interested in the horseshoe tournament may contact Stan Thacker at 217-825-3329 for more information.

Then at noon, there will be a washer tournament, with a $5 entry fee. Those interested in competing may contact Bob Wessell at 217-851-5854 or Jodi Summers at 217-827-2547.

The afternoon will provide players one more chance to showcase skills with a bags tournament starting at 5 p.m. The bags tournament has a $5 entry fee and interested parties may contact Matt Waters at 217-710-7010 for further information.

Food booths will open at 10:30 a.m. and will be open until 4 p.m. They will serve hamburgers, pork patties and hot dogs.

Craft booths will open at 11 a.m.  Vendors include Big T's Honeybee Farm, Coffeen School PTC Popcorn, Wiltshire Workshop, Deer Room Designs, Pink Zebra/Color Street, Mary Kay, White's Variety Store, 7/24 Decorating, Lemongrass Spa Products, Windsor's Whimsical Wonders, Bone-a-fide Creations and Queen Bee Slime Crafts.

Children and adults alike will enjoy a full day of games, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 3 to 5 p.m., and a pinata at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Fall Fest patrons will not only find plenty of great food at the event, but will have the chance to go home with some too.

The much-loved dessert walk will take place from 1 to 2 p.m.

Bingo will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and the Hillsboro FFA pedal tractor pull will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Knights of Columbus will serve fish from 4 to 7 p.m. And also from 4 to 7 p.m., The Fundamentals, who present music of pop, rock and oldies, will provide evening entertainment.

Participants can burn off extra calories during the color fun run. The color fun run starts at 4:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Christmas Light Fundraiser.
