College Report: Brockmeyer Scores 20 In Opening Game


If the first regular season game for Southern Illinois University-Carbondale is any indication, Lincolnwood graduate Abby Brockmeyer will simply continue to add to her already stellar legacy as a basketball player.

Brockmeyer, a sophomore, started the year with a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in SIUC's 95-94 road loss to University of Tennessee-Martin. Brockmeyer, who also had two steals, drained 7-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the free throw line. She finished the game with one three-pointer.

Derek Bourke (Nokomis) scored 11 points for MacMurray College in their season opener, an 80-65 win over Central Christian College of the Bible. Bourke, who also had eight rebounds and two assists, hit 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from the charity stripe. He was one of five Highlanders in double figures. Four of those were starters. MacMurray is 1-0.

Ashley Schneider (Nokomis), an Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball player, led the Titans in assists (seven) and rebounds (six) in their 81-71 exhibition loss to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Schneider, who started at forward and played 30 minutes, finished with 10 points by hitting 4-of-10 from the field, which included one trey, and 1-of-2 from the free throw line. She also had two blocked shots.

Lindsey Major (Hillsboro) had 22 digs as her college team, Lewis and Clark Community College, defeated Greenville University junior varsity team 3-1. In the Blazers' 3-0 win over the Lindenwood University-Belleville, Major had 16 digs and three service aces. Lewis and Clark is 19-14 overall and 2-4 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference.

Karsyn Kulick (Litchfield) played for Fontbonne University in their recent matches with Iowa Wesleyan University and Greenville University. In the 3-2 loss to Greenville, Kulick had seven kills and four digs. She finished with six kills in the 3-1 loss to Iowa Wesleyan. Fontbonne is 9-15 overall and 8-10 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Austin Grabow (Hillsboro) started at center for Illinois College in their 20-6 loss to Knox College. He helped IC post 331 yards of offense. They rushed for 181 yards and passed for 150 yards. IC had 21 first downs and one rushing touchdown. Illinois College is 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the Midwest Conference-South Division.

Trevor Geggie (Litchfield) had one kickoff return for 28 yards for Greenville in their 21-13 loss to University of Minnesota-Morris. Greenville is 3-7.

Jade Taylor (Litchfield), a Greenville women's soccer player, had one shot on goal in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game. In the 3-2 double overtime loss to Westminster College, she played 75 minutes. With the road loss at Westminster, Greenville slipped to 14-6-1 overall. They were 6-2-1 in the SLIAC.
