Hillsboro graduate Carly Cameron did not squander her first opportunity at home.
Home now is Illinois College, where Cameron is now a junior. Cameron helped the Lady Blues win the IC Tip-Off Classic, which was held at Sherman Gymnasium in Jacksonville.
They won the tournament convincingly, winning their two games by 21 and 20 points respectively. In the championship win over Greenville University, an 80-60 affair, Cameron scored 14 points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots. She drained 5-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. She hit her only trey opportunity. The starter played 18 minutes.
Her shooting percentages were almost as good in the semifinal win, an 80-59 victory over Westminster College. The starter, who played 22 minutes, scored 11 points, while hitting 50 percent in all shooting phases. She hit 4-of-8 from the field, which included a 2-of-4 performance from beyond the arc, and 1-of-2 from the free throw line. The former Hiltopper player also had five rebounds.
For her efforts in the Tip-Off Classic, she has one of two athletes named to the IC Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team.
Thus far this season, the 6'0" forward has scored 49 points and pulled down 34 rebounds in the first five games. In addition to her 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, she also has seven assists, six blocked shots and two steals. She has scored her points by hitting 16-of-35 from the floor and 12-of-17 from the charity stripe. She has five treys. IC is 3-2.
Ashley Schneider (Nokomis), an Illinois Wesleyan University senior, scored 16 points in IWU's 78-73 loss to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Schneider, who hit 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line, had five rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and two steals. The starter, who played 34 minutes, was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. IWU is 2-2.
Austin Grabow (Hillsboro), Illinois College's starting center, helped the IC Blue Boys post 463 yards of offense against Lake Forest College. They passed for 368 yards and rushed for 95. They had 26 first downs and passed for four touchdowns. Illinois is 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the Midwest Conference-South Division.
Abby Brockmeyer (Lincolnwood) scored eight points, but it was not enough to power the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Salukis beyond Western Kentucky University, who won an 83-76 decision. Brockmeyer, who started and played 29 minutes, also had eight rebounds and two assists. With the loss, SIUC slipped to 2-2.
Karsyn Kulick (Litchfield) played in 17 matches for Fontbonne University this year. Kulick had 93 kills, 21 digs, 12 blocks (three solos), five service aces and two assists. Fontbonne is 9-16 overall and 8-10 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
