Austin Chausse, a Nokomis graduate and Augustana College senior, probably stated what every Viking football player was feeling after their 24-19 win over Elmhurst College.
"It felt pretty good to get a 'W'," said the senior tailback. "It should give us a boost of confidence. We have some tough teams coming up and it was important. I hope this leads to more wins. There are a couple of teams that I would love to beat before my career is over."
The win was not only their first of the year overall, it was their first in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as well. Chausse finished the game with 10 rushing yards on two carries.
"I switched positions from fullback to tailback and it was the right move for me," said the 5-foot-11, 210-pound Chausse, who lost over 15 pounds to get ready for his new position. I wanted to make more of an impact on the team. I feel like I am more flexible, comfortable and agile at this weight."
Augustana is 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW.
Jade Taylor (Litchfield) scored Greenville University's first goals in their wins over Westminster College (2-1) and Principia College (2-0). Taylor hit the game winner at the 6:10 mark in the win over Principia. In the win over Westminster, she hit the back of the net at the 13:29 mark. In both cases, it gave Greenville 1-0 leads. Greenville is 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Mattison Morgan (Litchfield), a St. Louis College of Pharmacy sophomore, scored STLCOP's third goal in their 5-3 win over Lincoln Christian University. Morgan hit the back of the net at the 37:40 mark of the contest. It tied the score at 3-3. STLCOP is 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the American Midwest Conference.
Lexi Throne (Litchfield) finished 37th in the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships. The outing was hosted by Olivet Nazarene University and held at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais. The University of Illinois-Springfield freshman finished the 5,000-meter race in 20 minutes, 17.1 seconds.
Alexandria Quarton (Litchfield), also an Illinois-Springfield runner, also competed in the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships. Quarton took 64th in 21:10.7. Illinois-Springfield took seventh with 154 points. University of Chicago took first with 29 points.
Sarah Maguire (Hillsboro) was MacMurray College's goal keeper of record as they defeated Eureka College 7-0. Maguire, who played 90 minutes, did not allow a goal, but did not have to make any saves. In the 8-0 loss to Westminster College, Maguire allowed eight goals and made 12 saves in 90 minutes of play. She has a record of 2-7. MacMurray is 2-8 overall and 0-1 in the SLIAC.
Lindsey Major (Hillsboro) has six digs as her college team, Lewis and Clark Community College, defeated Kaskaskia College 3-1. In the 3-2 loss to Principia College, Major was held to two digs. Lewis and Clark is 9-11 overall and 0-3 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference.
Caleb Jackson (Hillsboro) had 33 rushing yards on 10 carries for Greenville University in their 19-6 loss to MacMurray College. He also had a kickoff return for 13 yards. Greenville is 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Austin Grabow (Hillsboro), an Illinois College player, subbed into IC's first win of the year, a 61-29 blasting of Beloit College. Grabow is an offensive lineman and helped IC post 470 yards of offense. The Blueboys passed for 409 yards and rushed for 61 yards. They had 24 first downs and seven touchdowns, six of which were passing and one was rushing. Illinois College is 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest Conference.
Whitney Chesser (Hillsboro), Bailey Lentz (Litchfield), Aliese Greenwood (Hillsboro) and Emily Benning (Hillsboro) have all logged time for Blackburn College this year. The Beavers are 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the SLIAC.
Chesser and Lentz have both started every game. Chesser, a sophomore midfielder, has made three shots on goal. Lentz, a freshman defensive player, does not have any stats. Greenwood, a freshman forward, has made nine starts and played in 11 games. She has made two shots. Benning, a freshman midfielder, has played in eight games and does not any stats.
Bobby Nash (Lincolnwood) has six shots on goal for Blackburn. The senior midfielder has started and played in ten games. Jordan Tuetken (Hillsboro), a freshman defensive player, has played in five games and started one game. Blackburn is 3-8-1 overall and 0-3 in the SLIAC.
