County CEO Students Announce Class Project

Posted

Every year, the young team of entrepreneurs in the Montgomery County CEO (Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities) program create a class business project.

The experience creates teamwork, teaches start-up strategies and business principles and builds a blueprint for starting their own personal businesses that are displayed at the annual trade show in the spring.

This year’s team attempted to launch two parallel businesses, Wrap Up 2020 and Covid Christmas.

Wrap Up 2020 has been canceled due to COVID. However, the idea showed promise as several board members and CEO investors encouraged the possibility of “wrapping booths.”

Most people wait until the last minute to wrap their gifts because of the hassle and mess. This year’s team had hoped to capitalize by helping people avoid the stress and enjoy a festive environment to wrap their gifts!

“Wrapping Booth” rentals were scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12, at Aumann Auctions in Nokomis or Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Moose Lodge in Hillsboro.

The team would provide the wrapping paper, tags and labels, scissors and tape, wrapping station and the clean up for customers and a plus one. Wrapping stations were planned with social distancing in mind and sanitized prior to and after each use.

While Wrap Up 2020 stalled on account of the pandemic, the planning experience revealed several how-to strategies for implementing a service business.

The other business idea is selling COVID-themed Christmas items. There’s no denying it, 2020 has been a crazy year, so this year’s team created a host of Covid Christmas products to add humor to an otherwise difficult year.

Customers can choose from one of the hilarious 2020 Covid Christmas-themed T-shirts or purchase 2020 Covid Christmas-themed cards. For the best value, the team also created a “mystery box” which includes a T-shirt, a pack of Covid Christmas cards and an assortment of other special mystery items!

Pop-up shops featuring their products will be available in place of Wrap Up 2020.

Customers can place an order with a team member or go to the store website at www.mocochristmas.com.
