County Computer System Infected By Malware Attack

County offices at the Montgomery County Courthouse, Historic Courthouse, the Courthouse Annex, and to some extent the Montgomery County Jail–all in downtown Hillsboro–have been impacted by an external "malware" infection.

Malware, short for malicious software, is an umbrella term referring to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive computer software such as computer viruses.

"There is no suspected breach or loss of county office data at this time," according to Montgomery County EMA Coordinator Greg Nimmo.

The problem was first discovered on Wednesday and since then, county information technology staff, along with contracted vendor support, have been working to resolve the computer outage.

County offices remain open during normal office hours and will provide services that are available.  Telephones in the affected offices are by and large operational with only intermittent interruption.

Nimmo anticipates the computer outage will continue into Monday.
