County Makes Up Third Of MSM All-Conference


Six Montgomery County volleyball players were among the 18 honored by the coaches of the MSM Conference recently as the group released this year’s all-conference teams.

Lincolnwood, who co-ops with Morrisonville for volleyball; placed four players on this year’s list, while Nokomis added two, with both teams having one first-teamer in their ranks. Nokomis senior Presley Lamb was the Redskins’ representative on the first team after posting 120 assists, 147 digs and 22 aces this year. Lincolnwood senior Sidney Glick joined Lamb on the first team after leading the Lancers in aces, with 84, and contributing all over the court with 68 kills, 264 digs and 52 assists.

In addition to the two seniors from Montgomery County, Lutheran’s Kaleigh Bergschneider and Makenna Cox, South County’s Ella Prince, Calvary’s Simone Johnson and Edinburg’s Julianna Orr also made the first team.

On the second team, three of the seven spots were taken up by either Lincolnwood or Nokomis players.

Junior hitter Hailee Belsher led Lincolnwood with 426 kills and 79 blocks, while Avery Pope had 346 assists, 196 digs and 46 aces in earning a second team spot. Junior Audrey Sabol was Nokomis’ second team representative after she led the team in kills with 106 and blocks with 23. 

Others on the second team were Caleina Herman of Lutheran, Maddie Mutch and Amber Mies of South County and Rebecca Moxley of Tri-City.

In addition to the two all-conference teams, four players were honorable mentions for the all-conference list. Junior Tessa Funderburk was one of those four as the Lincolnwood setter led the team in assists with  383, while also posting 45 kills and 14 blocks.

Rounding out this year’s honorees were Pawnee’s Sydney Galloway and Jordan Watts and Mt. Olive’s Payton Stephens.

Lutheran would finish first overall in the conference and fourth in the Class 1A state finals. Lincolnwood would be second at 7-1, followed by South County at 6-2 and Nokomis at 5-3. Edinburg (3-5), Pawnee (3-5), Tri-City (2-6), Calvary (2-6) and Mt. Olive (0-8) rounded out this year’s MSM Conference standings.
