COVID Cases Falling, Vaccinations Rising

The number of new coronavirus cases continued to decline last week, and the Montgomery County Health Department continued to administer vaccinations.

According to health department numbers, there were 47 new COVID-19 cases for the week of Feb. 14-20.  With fewer people requesting tests though, the positivity rate ticked up slightly to 3.1 percent for the week.

As of Saturday there have been 2,668 confirmed coronavirus cases in Montgomery County since the start of the pandemic.  Not included in that number are the confirmed cases at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.  According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, as of Sunday, Feb. 21, 702 of the 706 inmates who had tested positive in the past have recovered, as have 178 of the 179 staff members.

“This week we administered first dose vaccinations to some remaining individuals in Phase 1A, gave second doses to those in 1A and 1B, and held more first dose clinics for individuals in Phase 1B,” the health department posted on its website on Saturday.  Additionally, staff in all four Montgomery County school districts got their second doses on Saturday.

Those who would like to get on the Montgomery County vaccination waiting list should call 217-532-2001 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., or email name, age, phone number, and what town you live in to mchdpublichealth@gmail.com. Once on the list, someone from the health department will call with more information when it becomes available.

As of Saturday, the health department reported 4,900 people on the call list. The health department maintains a list of all those who have called or emailed the office to request the vaccination. Appointments are given based on that list, beginning at the top of the list each time. If someone misses the health department call they still keep their spot on the list and will be called for the next clinic.
