Crystal Ann Epps, 64, of Litchfield, died on Friday evening, Jan. 9, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Pastor Lynne Taylor of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Plummer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Epps was born on June 30, 1961, in Lewistown, PA, a daughter of August John and Betty Jane (Henry) Wendel. She graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1980.
She married Donald Carter on Nov. 25, 1978, and the marriage ended in divorce. She later married Larry Dean Epps on May 12, 2012, and he survives.
Mrs. Epps was employed for many years as housekeeping supervisor with Heritage Health in Litchfield and had previously worked for several years at Eades Dairy Queen and KFC. She was known as an excellent cook and baker and loved hosting Sunday dinners for her family. She enjoyed spending time at the family lake lot at Lake Lou Yaeger, bird watching, and most of all, time spent with her grandchildren. She attended Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
Mrs. Epps is survived by her husband, Larry Epps of Litchfield; two sons, Jonathon E. (companion Tina Allen) Carter of Mt. Olive and Kevin D. (Amie) Carter of Walshville; stepson, Seth (spouse, Shusaku Uchida) Epps of Chicago; daughter, Kalynn (companion, James Rhodes) Carter of Litchfield; siblings, Dennis (companion, DeeAnn Burwitz) Wendel of Wentzville, MO, Jenny (Doug) Pezold of Walshville and Selena (Mark) Brazel of Litchfield; seven grandchildren, Madison Uchtman, Jonathon Carter, Lil Carter, Trevlin Long, Chyanne Bruntjen, Emma Bruntjen and Sofia Bruntjen; great-grandchild, Jax Rhodes; several nieces and nephews; and special cousins and best friends, Debbie Logsdon and Sally McBrain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Wendel; a nephew, Layton Pezold; and a sister-in-law, Vickie Ostermann.
