A 21-year-old was killed and a 16-year-old injured in a car-motorcycle accident on Litchfield Trail in rural Mt. Olive on Thursday evening, April 23.

The 21-year-old, who had been riding a Honda dirt bike, was transported from the scene by Arch helicopter and pronounced dead at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield at 8:03 p.m., according to Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl.  The 16-year-old, who had been driving a 2014 Chevy Impala, had to be extricated from the vehicle before he, too, was transported by Arch to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Two passengers in the car were taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield for evaluation, according to the Litchfield Fire Department.

According to Sheriff Kahl, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Litchfield Trail and collided with the motorcycle.

In addition to the Arch helicopters, 12 members of the Litchfield Fire Department responded to the accident, as well as the Mt. Olive Fire Department, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and Hillsboro Area Ambulance stood by in Litchfield.

Charges are possible after the investigation, according to Kahl.
