Daniel Joseph Alonzo, 64, of Witt, died at 4:52 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Cremation rites were accorded, and a memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m. at the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 12 p.m.  at Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield, where military rites will be accorded. The Rev. Randy Sands of the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church will be officiating. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Alonzo was born May 30, 1959, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Louis and Shirley (Fore) Alonzo. He married Mary Mills on Dec. 22, 1989, and she preceded him in death in 2019. He later married Dorothy (Raines) Alonzo on Oct. 15, 2020, and she survives.

He served his country in the United States Army and spent six years stationed overseas in Germany. Mr. Alonzo worked as a factory laborer and handyman throughout his life, and loved fishing, playing on the computer and watching the History Channel. He lived in Columbia, MO, before moving east to the local area, first Staunton and later Hillsboro and Witt.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Alonzo is survived by his three daughters, Tia and Melisa Alonzo of Hillsboro and Kimberly Alonzo of Imperial City, MO; grandchildren Damien, Gabriella, Ariahna and Hunter; and siblings Billy and Raymond Alonzo, Louise Alonzo Hendren and Patti Tapley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Free Methodist Church of Hillsboro.
