Daniel Wayne Murray, 82, of Irving died on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 7:20 a.m. at Hillsboro Hospital.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 19, from 10 a.m. until the time of services, at the Hough-Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will begin at noon, on Friday, June 19, with Father Daniel Wollenborg presiding. Burial will be in Irving Cemetery.
Mr. Murray was born February 27, 1944, in Vandalia, to Wayne and Kathryn (Miller) Murray of Brownstown. He was raised in Pana, attending Sacred Heart School, and he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. His family moved to Hillsboro during his junior year, and he graduated from Hillsboro High in 1963, while being an active participant in FFA.
He married the former Nancy Pearl Kirk of Litchfield on September 3, 1966, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, in Litchfield; they became members of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. They lived on a farm in Irving for 59 years and were blessed with five children; Marion, Nannette, Shawn (Leslie), and Ira (Lori) all of Irving, and Derek of Schram City.
Mr. Murray was a long-time farmer and did custom combining work earlier in his farming career. In addition, he drove a semi tractor-trailer for over 50 years. He was known by many as #25, and his CB handle, the Irishman. Dan was leased to Dale Williams Trucking of Fillmore and racked up over 3,500,000 miles as a local owner-operator. His work ethic was well respected and he had the reputation to take on challenging jobs requiring the maneuvering of his semi into difficult, tight places.
He was also famous for his smile, love of helping others and always brought smiles to children’s faces with his warm personality. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and he volunteered for many years, donating hogs and time for the Irving Volunteer Firefighters’ Pancake and Sausage Dinner fundraiser. Dan also enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go deer hunting, fishing and in his youth, he also trapped.
Mr. Murray is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children; six brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Kathryn; his sister, Ann Maguire; his brothers, Dale, Tom and Greg Murray; and grandchild, Dylan Roemelin.
Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association and St. Agnes Catholic Church.
