Darlene C. Mikeska, 95, of Taylor Springs, died on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024 at 6:20 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Taylor Springs.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Father Daniel Willenborg, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, will be Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Mikeska was born on June 6, 1928, in Montgomery County, to the late Roy E. and Oregona (Schoeneweis) Denton. She was a graduate of Irving High School in Irving and had attended two years of college studying to be a teacher’s aide. She married William V. “Willie” Mikeska, on May 22, 1954, in Hillsboro, and he preceded in death on Oct. 27, 2009.
Mrs. Mikeska had worked as a teacher’s aide at Beckemeyer Elementary School and Coffeen School in the Hillsboro School District and also was a salad maker at the Moonlight Y in Taylor Springs. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, where she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women; Meals on Wheels and Taylor Springs Centennial Association. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and she loved her Taylor Springs community. She had lived in Taylor Springs her entire adult life.
Mrs. Mikeska is survived by her children, Melinda (Bob) Groszek of Taylor Springs, William “Butch” (Annette) Mikeska of Hillsboro, Theresa (Mike) Reilman of Trenton and Brenda Mikeska of Georgetown, IN; nine grandchildren, Erika Rudolph, Nathan (Kate) Mikeska, Ginger (Ben) Shroyer, Lasha (Ryan) Guillen, Mitchell (Danielle) Mikeska, Morgan (Seth) Yount, Leigh Anne Groszek, Anthony Groszek and Hilary (Daniel) Revkin; eight great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter and Hannah Shroyer; Oriana and Alex Mikeska; Amelia and Leo Yount and Liam Mikeska; two sisters, Linda Denton of Hillsboro and Juanita (Steven) Borgic of Decatur and one sister-in-law, Barbara Denton of Taylor Springs.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Denton in infancy and Robert “Bud” Denton on Sept. 16, 1998.
Memorials are suggested to Taylor Springs Park Fund or St. Jude.
