David Charles Hendricks, 66, of Hillsboro, formerly of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, at 10:24 p.m. surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home, with Rev. Skyler Elmer of the Christian Church of Litchfield officiating. Burial will be at  Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family with arrangements.  

Mr. Hendricks was born on Dec. 14, 1953, in Monticello, IA, to Charles and Nan Ellen (Seamer) Hendricks. He married Katherine Lewis in 1975, they later divorced. He married Dr. Julie Barrow on April 19, 2003, at Captiva Island, FL.

Mr. Hendricks graduated from Delavan High School in 1971, and went on to Illinois State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in education in 1975. He began his teaching career in the Litchfield Community School District in the 1975 – 1976 school year, he taught electronics and woodshop.  He later taught drivers education and eventually went on to teach computer technology and programming.

Mr. Hendricks resigned from his teaching career in 1990 and was later hired on as the technology coordinator for the school district, retiring in 2002. He owned and operated Computer Land, a computer store in Litchfield. Mr. Hendricks also sold medical software and was an optician at Family Eye Clinic in Collinsville.  

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, and the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department.  Mr. Hendricks joined the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department on Nov. 25, 1980, and served until Nov. 25, 2003. He was a certified Firefighter II, EMT-B and assisted Chief Bill Bergen with fire investigations.

In his spare time, he enjoyed photography, golf and traveling with his wife to different wineries and restaurants. Mr. Hendricks enjoyed running in marathons.  He ran in several after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Mr. Hendricks is survived by his wife; children, Mark (Natalie) Hendricks of Woodstock, Joy (John) Watson of Bettendorf, IA, Kay (Matthew) Raffety of Hillsboro, Haley Sawyer of Hillsboro and Hannah Sawyer of Hillsboro; siblings, Lon (Nancy) Hendricks of St. Paul, MN and Julie (Paul) Kasa of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Samuel Hendricks, Jessica Watson, Sarah Watson, John Raffety, Amelia Raffety and Edward Raffety.

Mr. Hendricks was preceded in death by his parents.
